What: Footloose the Musical
When: Now-June 3
Where: Theatre Arlington, 305 W. Main Street
During the opening weekend of Footloose the Musical at Theatre Arlington, Mayor Jeff Williams made a cameo appearance as a city councilmember.
“Absolutely not!” he said when citizens asked to be allowed to dance in the town. Later, Williams loosened up and was seen busting a few moves himself.
The play, directed by Stephen Morris, tells the story of a small town whose council is largely influenced by the local minister and bans dancing. But then a newcomer from Chicago , Wren McCormack, challenges the status quo and the minister.
Several love stories are at play in the performance – there’s the minister and his wife, their daughter, Ariel, and the newcomer from Chicago as well as a few local teens.
The underlying, thought-provoking themes of love and liberty are brought to life through the musical’s stunning visuals.
