5 Free and Cheap Things To Do Near Downtown Arlington This Week (Oct. 13-19)

What: South Street Art Festival

When: Oct. 13-15

Where: 200 E. South Street

Cost: free

The fifth annual South Street Arts Festival in Downtown Arlington will feature food, music and art as well as a craft beer and wine garden. Parking is free for the event which will run from 4 to10 p.m. Friday, Oct 13, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15.

What: Autocross

When: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. Oct. 14

Where: UTA Parking Lot 49 (SE corner of Mitchell and Cooper Streets)

Cost: free

UTA Racing will gather with other teams from across the nation to race their Formula SAE cars. The campus and community are invited to watch the action.

What: Touch-a-Truck

When: 9-11:30 a.m. Oct. 14

Where: First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center Street

Cost: free

The Arlington Public Library will host its third annual Touch-a-Truck which features big trucks, police cars, fire engines, moving vans, construction equipment and other vehicles. For those with special needs, the first hour is sensory friendly without all the noise and lights.

What: Salvador Dali exhibit

When: Oct. 21-Jan. 21

Where: Arlington Museum of Art, 201 W. Main Street

Cost: $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, free for children ages 12 and under

"Dali was a painter, designer, sculptor, writer and set designer as well as a master engraver who could produce equally outstanding work in dry point, etching, woodcut or lithography," according to the Arlington Museum of Art which will be showing 100 of the artist’s pieces. The museum is open 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.

What: Middle of the Month Open Mic

When: 8-11 p.m. Oct 18

Where: On Tap, 200 N. Mesquite Street, Suite 105

Cost: free

On Tap, a craft beer bar located in Downtown Arlington, invites musicians and singers to bring their instruments and lyrics for an evening of original, live music. The open mic is a monthly event led by Kasey Tackett.
